Description
The RDR-1600 is an airborne synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and weather avoidance radar operating in the X-band (IEEE designation) or I-band (NATO designation) at a frequency of 9,375 MHz. It provides a full-color presentation of weather returns, pilot-selectable antenna tilt, automatic scan angle, pitch/roll correction, and a built-in test function. Operational modes include weather detection and alert, SAR, surveillance, beacon detection, and ground mapping, with an instrumented range of 240 nautical miles (445 km). The system was selected for the Royal Danish Air Force's AgustaWestland EH101 Merlin helicopters.
