Description

The AN/APS-145 is an airborne surveillance radar operating in the UHF band (400–450 MHz), manufactured by Lockheed Martin in the United States. It is an upgraded version of the AN/APS-125, fitted in U.S.-built E-2C Hawkeye airborne early-warning (AEW) aircraft and the P-3 Orion. Utilizing a rotating antenna within a circular radome mounted atop the aircraft, it detects and tracks multiple threats across sea, air, land, and the critical land-sea interface. The radar employs a triple pulse repetition frequency (PRF) of 300 pps to prevent blind speeds during moving target indication, a pulsewidth of 13 µs, and a peak power of 1 MW, achieving an instrumented range of 350 nautical miles (650 km) with a 7° beamwidth and an antenna rotation of 5 rpm. Its processor can handle over 600 targets simultaneously and control more than 40 airborne intercepts. An upgrade to the AN/APS-145(V) in 2003 increased the operating range by 40 percent compared to the AN/FPS-138, improved the radar data processor to monitor, track, and display over 2,000 tracks simultaneously, and introduced new Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) 2100 computers with 333 MHz processors and seven-color, 11-inch flat-panel displays. The AN/APS-145 has since been replaced by the AN/APY-9.
