Description
The AN/FPQ-11 was a prototype S-band (2,700–2,900 MHz) target tracking and instrumentation radar, developed from the AN/MPS-19, designed for meteorological use. It tracked the trajectories of meteorological rockets in preparation for launching interplanetary spacecraft, with an instrumented range of 1,828 km. The system featured a 4.27-meter parabolic antenna with a 1.8° beamwidth and conical scan, requiring precise turntable positioning with an accuracy of ±0.15 milliradians. It utilized new parametric receivers with a maximum sensitivity of −115 dBm, displaying echo signals and transponder responses on three 12.7-centimeter A-Scopes.
