Description
The AN/APQ-180 is an X-band (IEEE designation) or I/J-band (NATO designation) airborne multipurpose radar system manufactured by Hughes Electronics in the United States. Designed for installation on the Lockheed AC-130U “Specter” gunship aircraft, it is a derivative of the AN/APG-70 radar, utilizing its planar antenna array. Key enhancements include a modified gimbal mounting scheme for the antenna, an improved analog signal processing unit, and the incorporation of several new and enhanced air-to-ground modes, such as Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR).
