Description

The Thales Searchmaster is a French-made X-band airborne multirole surveillance radar featuring an active electronically scanned array (AESA). Derived from the RBE2 radar used on the Dassault Rafale, it is designed to fulfill surveillance requirements across five mission types: anti-surface warfare, anti-submarine warfare, maritime surveillance, ground surveillance, and tactical air support. Its compact and lightweight design (approximately 75 kg) facilitates integration into various platforms, including medium-altitude, long-endurance (MALE) UAVs, medium-tonnage or heavy-lift mission helicopters, and turboprop or jet-engined mission aircraft. Key benefits include extended range, 360° coverage, electronic scanning in the vertical plane for simultaneous short-range and long-range surveillance, continuous detection in harsh environmental conditions, and reduced maintenance costs due to AESA technology and integrated maintenance concepts. The Searchmaster has been selected by the French defense procurement agency (DGA) for the French Navy’s upgraded Atlantique 2 (ATL2) maritime patrol aircraft.
