Description

The S 1850 M is an L-band, electronically stabilized, multi-beam, long-range, 3D surveillance radar designed for both air and surface detection. Manufactured by BAE Systems in cooperation with Thales Naval Nederland, it is a derivative of the SMART-L radar, incorporating components from the Martello S 723. This naval radar, also known by its internal designations TRS-3505 or DRBV 27, features a peak power of 132 kW, an average power of 5 kW, and an instrumented range of 400 km. It offers improved anti-jamming capabilities, a flexible signal processor, local consoles, and a slightly higher rotation speed, enabling it to automatically detect and track up to 1,000 air targets. The S 1850 M is deployed on the Horizon frigates of the French and Italian navies, the Royal Navy's Type 45 destroyers, and has been selected for the UK’s Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers.
