Description

The Giraffe AMB (Agile Multi Beam) is a G/H band pulse-Doppler surveillance radar and combat control center, part of the Giraffe family of systems developed by Ericsson. Operating within the 5.4 to 5.9 GHz frequency range and having an instrumented range of 100 km, it is specifically designed for mobile and static short- or medium-range air defense Command, Control, Communications, and Intelligence (C³I) systems. This true three-dimensional search radar features an active phased array antenna with full 3D capability, employing a "stacked beam" concept with one wide transmit beam and multiple narrow receive beams. This design provides an unparalleled 3D target update rate of one per second, high altitude coverage, and excellent jamming resistance due to minimized antenna sidelobe levels. The Giraffe AMB is in development for the Swedish RBS 23 BAMSE air defense missile system and is adaptable to most air defense systems, with approximately 450 Giraffe systems ordered since 1978 and in service in 18 countries outside Sweden.
