Description

Amazonie is an early warning and target tracking radar operating in the C band (IEEE designation) or G band (NATO designation), with an instrumented range of 2,500 km. Manufactured by Swiss Radar, it is primarily used to track European Space Agency (ESA) missiles launched from Kourou when optical tracking is hindered by the glare of the fireball. The system features a 3.65-meter (12-foot) symmetrical parabolic reflector antenna fed by a modified monopulse splash plate. Amazonie 1, installed near Pariacabo in Kourou, replaced the Adour-2, while Amazonie 2 is a deployable version slated for use in French Guiana from 2024.
