Design
There are two varieties of the spherical cast steel body, taken from the American BLU-24 and BLU-66 submunitions, which were used extensively during the Vietnam War.
The most common type has vertical external grooves and radial internal grooves, the other type has a smooth outer surface with internal notching.
Both varieties have large central fuze wells, the main charge cast into the body and a central recess to accept the detonator.
Fuze
The original submunition fuze is replaced with a MUV-type fuze, which may be made in China, Russia or Vietnam.
The fuze is held in place by a plastic collar which fits into the fuze well.
The fuze consists of a tubular steel body containing a spring-loaded striker retained by a pin and usually has a plastic cover over it.
