Type 93 Chinese 60mm Mortar

The Type 93 Chinese 60mm mortar is a battalion-level fire support weapon, distinct from the traditional company-level Type 89 mortar used by the People's Liberation Army (PLA). While the Type 89 is lighter and used primarily by motorized infantry, the Type 93 is designated for airborne troops, mountain troops, and marines. Its impressive range of 5,500 meters makes it effective in challenging mountainous terrains, compensating for a lack of heavy fire support. Constructed from lightweight alloy, the Type 93 mortar features an innovative gun mount that allows for horizontal rotation, enhancing stability and height adjustment. Additionally, it employs a sleeve-type buffer, similar to the Type 87 82mm mortar, which saves space and improves shooting accuracy. The mortar can fire in a full 360 degrees, facilitated by its spherical base plate that eliminates the need for significant angle adjustments during firing.
