AN/TPY-4
The AN/TPY-4 is an L-band (1215-1400 MHz) active electronically scanned array (AESA) air defense radar, operating in the D band by NATO designation. This three-dimensionally measuring radar is capable of tracking satellites, detecting low-profile unmanned aerial systems (UAS), and performing ballistic missile search and tracking. It was selected by the US Air Force to replace the AN/FPS-75 radar. The AN/TPY-4 employs digital beamforming and can operate in a 360-degree rotating mode at 6 rpm or a non-rotating stop/stare mode with 90-degree coverage and a maximum detection range of 1,000 kilometers. Its antenna incorporates 1,152 Gallium Nitride (GaN) single radiators, enabling it to detect and track targets flying at altitudes up to 30 kilometers, surface targets at -6 degrees for ground-based maritime surveillance, and targets up to 90 degrees in elevation to support tactical ballistic missile missions without a cone of silence. Available in fixed and highly mobile variants, the radar is transportable by C-130, C-17, truck, rail, or helicopter.
