Description

The M433 American Projected Grenade is a high-explosive dual-purpose (HEDP), fragmentation with a shaped-charge (SC), percussion-fired, projected grenade with a setback and centrifugally armed, point-initiating base-detonating (PIBD), with a graze-sensitive feature providing both armor penetration and anti-personnel (AP) effects, fired from 40mm Grenade Launchers M79 and M203.

Design This projected grenade is a fixed round of ammunition consisting of a one-piece aluminium main body with a rotating band and a cartridge case assembly. A hollow ogive is fitted to the front of the grenade.
Fuze Assembly A PIBD fuze assembly with an RDX spit-back charge and copper cone liner is fitted to the opening of the grenade cavity. The cavity is sealed by the fuze assembly and contains the high-explosive shaped-charge (SC).
Note After the grenade leaves the launcher tube, initial rotation causes the fuze detent to free the fuze rotor.
