SPN-4 (1RL248-4) Russian High Power X-Band Radar Jammer
SPN-4

The SPN-4 (1RL248-4) Russian High Power X-Band Radar Jammer is designed to protect ground forces and ‘small size' installations and is described as being effective against airborne pulsed side-looking (SL), air-to-surface weapon control (ASWC), navigation and terrain-following (TF) radars. The equipment comprises antenna, system control, and power generation vehicles, all of which make use of the KAMAZ-4310 cross-country chassis. Of the three, the antenna vehicle is equipped with: An array assembly that comprises multibeam transmission, reception antennas, and a sidelobe compensation unit; A ‘sensing' unit; A frequency determination and reproduction unit; An analysis and control subsystem; A built-in test subsystem; A power amplifier. The system's ED60-T230P-1RAM1 power-generation vehicle houses a 60 kW diesel generator and an ‘industrial electrical network' connector and each SPN-4 architecture carries sufficient spares, tools, and accessories to make it self-sufficient in the field.Functionally, SPN-4 can operate as a stand-alone unit or as part of a jamming network with overall control being exercised from a central control station. The equipment automatically searches for targets, identifies them as ‘friend or foe', classifies their type (SL, ASWC, or navigation/TF), measures their parameters (carrier frequency, pulse duration, pulse repetition frequency, and the ‘rate of change in the pulse sequence envelope'), prioritises them and generates an appropriate output. SPN-4 jamming signals are described as having ‘predetermined structures' within the system's 24-beam, ‘Simultaneous Operating Sector' (SOS). Overall, SPN-4 has three operating modes as follows: Scan: In which the system determines the target emitter's bearing; Suppression: In which the equipment identifies target type, selects targets, automatically tracks targets and jams targets; Simulation: In which the system generates synthetic data for crew training. --- COGINT Report Data (7 June 2023, UNCLASSIFIED) --- Bandwidth/Frequencies: 2–4cm wavelength (Ku Band), 13.333–17.544 GHz Performance Specifications: • Operating frequency range [GHz]: 13.33–17.54 • Total power output [W]: 1,100 • Receiver sensitivity [dBW]: -90 • Angular coverage limits [deg]: azimuth: 0–360, elevation: - 2.5–45 • Angular coordinates measurement accuracy [deg]: in azimuth: 45, in elevation: 10 • Number of beams in instant coverage sector: 24 • Paraxial beam width [deg]: in azimuth: 7.5, in elevation: 2.5 • Repeater jamming signal delay [microsec]: ≤ 15 • Max continuous operation time [hrs]: 24 • Crew [people]: 5
