Design The Type 84 consists of a sheet-metal body with a fold-out carrying handle, the explosive charge, fuze(s), boosters and a diaphragm to separate the pressure plate and the explosive charge. The noticeable difference is that there is no side-mounted filler plug.
Pressure Plate Like its predecessor, the pressure plate is stepped to facilitate crushing and a controlled actuation pressure results from this design. Pressure of 400 to 700kg on top of the landmine will cause the pressure plate to fail.
Fuze Cavity The fuze cavity cap collapses down and transfers the pressure load onto the fuze head which actuates the landmine.
Detection The Type 84 landmine is easy to locate using metal detectors under most field conditions.
