Description
The CSK-181 Chinese 4x4 Light Tactical Vehicle is the third generation of the Mengshi family. It is designed to address the lack of mobility of the extended wheelbase version of the CSK-131, the CSK-141, while also improving the protection that the vehicle offers to its users. The CSK-181 family is also used as the basis for the CTL-181 and CSZ-181 variants. The layout and structure of the CSK-181 is broadly similar to the CSK141. It can accommodate two crew and eight dismounts. The general purpose variant is understood to be available in a short wheelbase configuration with two doors on each side of the hull, a long wheelbase version with two doors per side, and an extended hull with a fifth door at the rear.

Main Weapon System
Remote Weapon System
A remote weapon station can also be added to the vehicle, supporting a QBZ-95 5.8 × 42 mm assault rifle or a QLZ-87 35 × 32 mm automatic grenade launcher. The QBZ-95 has been in service with the PLA since 1997 and is currently being phased out by the QBZ-95-1, a gas-cycled weapon that is capable of semi-automatic and fully automatic fire and fed with 30-round dual stack polymer magazines. Various ancillaries such as under-barrel grenade launchers can be added to the weapon. It weighs 3.3kg and has a rate of fire of 650 rds/min. The QLZ-87 is a gas-operated automatic grenade launcher designed to fire 35 × 32 SR grenades in a 6- or 15- round drum. It comes in light and heavy forms, affecting the magazine size, dimensions, and range; however, the rate of fire is constant at 480 rds/min.
Protection
Armor
The standard protection of the vehicle is sufficient to withstand small-arms fire including 7.62 mm ammunition fired from a distance of 150 m. A video released by China's CCTV7 channel showed that each area of armour was tested against multiple rounds. The glass on the vehicle is also protection, possibly to the same level. Some sources state that a blast plate can be installed beneath the hull, but the car otherwise lacks any mine protection.
