Description

The SU-35S (Flanker-M) Russian Air Superiority Fighter is the main production variant as delivered to Russia and China. Previously known as Su-35BM. Primarily air superiority fighter, but with secondary air-to-ground capability.

Airframe Higher proportion of carbon fibre and aluminium-lithium alloy in fuselage; composites used for components such as leading-edge flaps, nosewheel door, and radomes.

Radar Tikhmirov NIIP N135E Irbis-E multifunction phased-array system (Bars derivative), comprising phased element scanning 60° sectors in azimuth and elevation, while hydraulic actuator provides additional 60° in azimuth and 120° in bank; effective azimuth thus 120°. Simultaneous aerial 30-target tracking and two-target engagement capability with semi-active radar homing missiles or eight targets with active radar AAMs; of these, four targets can be at some 162 n miles (300 km; 186 miles). Ground modes include terrain mapping, Doppler beam sharpening, and synthetic aperture. Four-target tracking and two simultaneous attack in ground mode. “Terrain following flight support”.
