Description
The LY-1 is a laser-based directed energy weapon displayed at the Chinese military parade in September 2025. A demonstrator has been operational on a Type 071 amphibious transport dock since August 2024. A bespoke carrier vehicle design was also displayed at the parade. Analysis (Naval News, Sep 2025): The LY-1 is likely a solid state laser weapon in the double digit-kilowatt range. A notional land-based application is possible given the carrier vehicle displayed alongside the shipborne version.
