Description

The Nimr (Arabic: نمر‎; meaning Tiger) is a family of all-terrain military armored personnel carrier (APC) vehicles, co-developed with GAZ and produced by Nimr LLC in the United Arab Emirates. The Nimr is designed specifically for military operations in the harsh desert climates found in the Middle East. Currently the Nimr is produced in the UAE by Nimr Automotive, and can be considered as an Emirati vehicle. The company is currently a leading manufacturer of tactical military vehicles in the Middle East and North Africa. In 2012 UAE and Algeria signed an agreement for production of armored version of the Nimr in Algeria. Since 2015 the Nimr Automotive is a part of Emirates Defense Industries Company (EDIC), which incorporates a number of UAE's defense manufacturers. In concept the Nimr is similar to the US HMMWV, though there are some differences between the two. Currently newer version of this vehicle are produced. The Nimr is a purpose designed military vehicle with good cross-country mobility. In terms of size and payload capacity the Nimr fits the gap between jeeps and light trucks. It can carry loads of up to 2 750 kg, depending on the version. The Nimr can also tow trailers and light artillery pieces. The baseline Nimr accommodates driver plus 3 passengers. It has got a cargo area are at the rear. However there are numerous versions of this military vehicle with different cabs, different body types and seating configurations. There is a version that accommodates driver plus 7 passengers. In 2005 a 6x6 version of this tactical vehicle was revealed. There are armored versions of the Nimr. These vehicles provide protection for the crew against small arms fire, artillery shell splinters and explosions. An NBC protection system was proposed as an option. The Nimr can carry various weapon. Some versions have a universal gun mount ring on top of the roof and can be armed with a 7.62 mm, or 12.7 mm machine gun, or 40 mm automatic grenade launcher. The Nimr is powered by a 5.9-liter Cummins ISBe 250 turbocharged diesel engine, developing 250 hp. Vehicle has a permanent all-wheel drive. The Nimr comes as standard with a central tyre inflation system. It improves mobility over difficult terrain, such as sand. It is also fitted as standard with run-flat tyres. Winch was proposed as an option. The Nimr can be airlifted by a C-130 Hercules military transport aircraft. The 4x4 version can be also airlifted underslung by a CH-53 helicopter.
