Description
The BR 2140 is an X-band battlefield ground surveillance radar, a derivative of the EL/M-2140, that entered service in 1997. It is mounted on a 14-meter tower, which serves as a superstructure on the Czech-designated BMP-1 infantry fighting vehicle “Snĕžka.” The radar system is integrated with a laser rangefinder and multiple visible light and infrared-sensitive cameras. Operating with a peak power of 25 W and an instrumented range of 40 km, it can detect a person at 9 km and a tank at 33 km, and measure artillery explosions with an accuracy of 20 meters up to a range of 15 km.
