Description

The DM-31 German Anti-Vehicle Mine is a high-explosive (HE), cylindrical, steel-bodied, bounding, anti-vehicle landmine which is designed to wound or kill by its fragmentation.

Design The DM-31 consists of a smooth outer steel case that contains a pyrotechnic delay and an expelling charge in the bottom, an inner case that contains a DM-11 non-electric detonator and a 510g explosive charge and about 1.18 kg of fragments.
Fuze A DM-56 pressure/pull fuze is screwed into a cavity that is off-center on top of the landmine.
Tripwire The DM-31 can be laid by hand or with a special emplacing tool and it can have two or three tripwires attached to the DM-56 mechanical fuze.
Kill Radius The landmine contains 510g of explosive and on actuation, it bounds 1.2 meters in the air and explodes propelling fragmentation to a lethal radius of 25 meters.
Detection The landmine can be located visually or with metal detectors under most field conditions. It can be defeated by blast overpressure from explosive breaching systems.
