System
Alternate Designation VOG-25P
Type Anti-Personnel Grenade
Manufacturer INA
Design The front of the body has a light metal truncated cone as an ogive, from which the body and nose of the fuze protrude for some distance. The older VOG-25P main body is grooved to its full length, both sides of the central pre-engraved rotation band, whereas the newer version is only grooved below the central pre-engraved rotation band.
Fuze On striking the ground the impact fuze fires a small charge of smokeless powder that blows the main body of the grenade back into the air, as it does so, a short delay unit is ignited and after the grenade has risen about 1.5m into the air, this delay burns through and initiates the high-explosive (HE) charge.
Note There are various models of the Russian 40mm HE-Frag grenades, the major difference is that the VOG-25 (7P17) functions immediately on impact, the VOG-25P (7P24) grenade is projected into the air by a gunpowder charge in the fuze and functions at a height of 1.5 meters to give an optimum airburst effect.
