Description
The AN/FPQ-15, also known as the Missile Precision Instrumentation Radar (MIPIR), is a monopulse precision tracking radar that operates in the C-band (IEEE designation) or G-band (NATO designation) at frequencies between 5.5 and 5.9 GHz. It features a Cassegrain antenna with a main reflector diameter of 28 feet and transmits with a peak power of 5 MW and an average power of 8 kW. Only one unit of this radar type was manufactured and installed on Ascension Island; since 2015, this radar has been modernized by Raytheon and converted to operate in the X-band.
