Description

The Type 73 Japanese Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) replaced the Type 60 APC. It is similar in layout to the Type 60 but has a a lower silhouette as well as being faster, larger, and amphibious. The APC was designed by the Technical Research and Development Institution of the Japanese Defense Agency and built by the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Tokyo, Japan. The APC crew consist of 4 (driver, commander, bow gunner, gunner). The APC also carries 8 passengers. It has an all-welded aluminum armored hull with the driver seated at the right side of the vehicle and the bow gunner on the left with the engine compartment to the rear. The vehicle commander is centered behind the driver and bow gunner. The Gunner is located to the rear of the commander on the right side of the hull. There is no shield for the 12.7mm machine gun. The Type 73 is due to be replaced by the Type 89 APC.

Type 75 Japanese Self Propelled Ground Wind Measuring Unit The variant supports the Type 75 Japanese 130-mm multiple rocket launcher (MRL). It is equipped with a mast that is 12.5 meters long. It is capable of measuring wind velocity in two directions up to a maximum of 30 km/h.
Type 92 Japanese Mine Clearing Vehicle (MCV) The Type 92 MCV is mounted on a Type 73 APC Chassis. There are some Type 73 APC's that mount the Type 70 mine clearing system.
