Description
The GWX 8000 StormOptix is an X-band (9,300–9,500 MHz) airborne weather radar system. It features automated weather representation with a 16-color palette, 3D volumetric scanning, and predictions for hail and lightning. The system also includes advanced ground clutter suppression and optional predictive wind shear detection, aiming to reduce pilot workload by eliminating the need for manual radar adjustments. It utilizes a mechanically scanned array antenna, composed of slotted waveguides, available in diameters of 10, 12, or 14 inches (25, 30, or 36 cm), and has a peak power of 40 W with an instrumented range of 320 nautical miles (600 km).
