Description

The Kamorta Class (Project 28 Class) of Indian corvettes are a series of anti-submarine warfare ships currently in service with the Indian Navy. The platform and key internal systems of these corvettes have been designed and built domestically. The design is believed to be a collaborative effort between the Indian Navy's Directorate General Naval Design Surface Ship Group (DGND SSG) and the in-house design team at Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers. To enhance stealth capabilities, the corvettes have implemented measures to reduce acoustic, magnetic, infrared (IR), and radar cross-section signatures. They are equipped with raft-mounted main reduction gear systems provided by DCNS/WIL. The third and fourth ships in the class feature composite superstructures supplied by Saab Kockums, which help to reduce the vessels' top weight. These corvettes are named after islands in the Lakshadweep archipelago. The Kamorta-class is intended to succeed the Kora class in terms of precedence and the Abhay class in terms of role.
