Description
The AN/SPQ-8 was a high-precision target tracking radar developed in the mid-1960s. Operating in the C-band (5,400 to 5,900 MHz), also known as the G-band by NATO, it was utilized by the U.S. Navy and NASA for measuring telemetry and flight data. Its applications included tracking spacecraft during reentry and supporting Apollo missions. Only two AN/SPQ-8 radar sets were built, installed on the USNS Watertown (T-AGM 6) and USNS Huntsville (T-AGM 7), before being replaced by the AN/FPS-105.
