Description

The Thales Variant is a French-made 2D naval surveillance and target indication radar, operating in both I- and G-bands with a peak power of 200 watts. It provides automatic, fast-reaction targeting data for air and surface targets simultaneously, utilizing pulse-Doppler operation for optimal clutter suppression and air target detection. The system features a double pill-box antenna with a horizontal beamwidth of 1.8 degrees and a vertical beamwidth of 14 degrees, rotating at 14 or 28 rpm. Its fully coherent design, digital pulse compression, Fast Fourier Transform processing, and integral Low Probability of Intercept (LPI) sensor, which can operate independently, enhance its electronic counter-measure capabilities and make it almost undetectable to external electronic support measures (ESM). With low power consumption, lightweight construction, and compact design, the Variant is suitable for fast patrol boats and other small ships, offering an instrumented range of 40 or 50 nautical miles.
