Description

The Iguane (manufacturer designations: DRAA-10A or TMV-118) is an X-band airborne multimode surveillance radar designed for fixed-wing aircraft. It features a surface search mode and a weather avoidance mode, which can operate simultaneously, along with track-while-scan capabilities. The radar is sensitive enough to detect small, periscope-sized targets and integrates an Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) system. Weighing under 170 kilograms, the Iguane system utilizes a parabolic antenna with an inverted cosecant squared pattern and transmits an intrapulse modulated waveform. Its receiver employs classic Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) filters with a pulse compression ratio of 500:1, achieving a range resolution of a few meters and an instrumented range of 130 nautical miles (240 km). Technical evaluation began in 1979, with the prototype flying in May 1981; approximately 90 units were produced, notably installed in the Breguet Atlantic within a small retractable radome under the forward fuselage.
