Description
The AN/TPX-4 is a Secondary Surveillance Radar (SSR) operating in the VHF band (157–187 MHz) with a pulse repetition frequency of 400 Hz, a pulsewidth of 5–8 µs, and an instrumented range of 120 miles (190 km). This auxiliary equipment was specifically designed to be used in conjunction with the AN/TPL-1 radar system to identify aircraft as friend or foe, utilizing the standard IFF Mark III. The first AN/TPX-4 radar was delivered in 1944, and over 580 units were manufactured by 1945.
