Description

The Northrop Grumman ASR 12 is a modular, fully solid-state airport surveillance radar system operating in the S-band (IEEE designation) or E-band (NATO designation) at frequencies between 2.7 and 2.9 GHz. As a further development of the ASR 9, it utilizes the same 36-foot wide by 17-foot tall curved metal latticework reflector. The system processes weather conditions, measured in six intensity levels conforming to ICAO standards, via a dedicated weather channel processor separate from the aircraft channel. Its operational transitions are adjustable, allowing optimization for site-specific clutter conditions, and it features an instrumented range of 60, 80, or 100 nautical miles with a range resolution of 700 feet.
