The PTM-4 landmine consists of a steel elongated casing in the form of a semi-cylinder, that includes a non-contact fuze with a magnetic target sensor, a pyrotechnic retardation ring, an executive detonating mechanism, a programmable electronic self-destruct (SD) and the main explosive charge.

It has a fabric spring-loaded cover for orientation in flight and correct orientation once on the ground.

During the movement of an armoured vehicle, it causes a magnetic disturbance that the PTM-4 perceives and classifies as the movement of heavy equipment and initiates the fuze.
