SNAR-10 (Big Fred) Russian Battlefield Surveillance Radar
SNAR-10

The primary mission of the SNAR-10 "Big Fred" radar is to detect and track both moving ground and water surface targets. Additionally, the radar can be used to provide friendly fire correction data to artillery units. The SNAR-10 is mounted on a standard MT-LB tracked chassis (6 road wheels per side). The vehicles are equipped with an NBC filtration and overpressure system. The radar operates in the K band (34.55-35.25 GHz) using a parabolic antenna. Detection ranges: moving vehicles up to 16 km (without MTI) / 10 km (with MTI), moving ships up to 30 km, shell impacts up to 10 km. Emplacement/displacement time is 5 minutes. Crew: 4-5 personnel. SNAR-10M1 (1РЛ232-2 / 1RL232-2): Modernized variant replacing the original radar with an updated system featuring digital processing/display, satellite navigation, and automated data transmission. Detects vehicles at up to 40 km, personnel at 8-10 km, mortar fire at 10 km, artillery at 15 km. Tracks up to 20 targets simultaneously. Antenna dimensions: 1.5 x 0.8 m (planar array). Autonomous operation: at least 3 days. Widely used and still in production. SNAR-10M (1РЛ232-1): Intermediate upgrade replacing the Big Fred radar with a Kredo-1E radar, ground vehicle detection range 40 km, with digital display and communications.
