Description

The AN/TPN-31, also known as ATNAVICS (Air Traffic Navigation, Integration and Coordination System), is a mobile ground-controlled approach system designed to provide air traffic services in locations lacking operational airport control and landing systems. Operating in the S-band with an instrumented range of 25 nautical miles (46 km), it integrates an Airport Surveillance Radar (ASR) and a Precision Approach Radar (PAR). The system is fully autonomous, compliant with ICAO/NAS standards, and can be transported by a single C-130 aircraft. Its operations vehicle, featuring two operator positions, can be positioned up to 3,200 feet from the radar unit using a fiber-optic cable.
