Description

The AN/TPX-46(V) is a Secondary Surveillance Radar (SSR) series manufactured by Hazeltine Corporation, a subsidiary of GEC-Marconi Electronic Systems Corporation. Models AN/TPX-46(V)1 through (V)6 are interrogator sets designed for compatibility with various missile systems, including the Improved HAWK, and feature interfaces for other radar systems. The AN/TPX-46(V)7, utilized in the Patriot missile system, differs by employing a computer-directed interrogator for single-target evaluation and an Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) antenna integrated into the primary radar antenna, operating at 1030/1090 MHz. This version extensively reuses components from the receiver/transmitter and processor of the (V)1 to (V)6 models, offering selectable peak power of 1,000 or 2,000 W, with its pulse repetition time and frequency synchronized to the primary radar.

Technical Characteristics
frequency 1030 / 1090 MHz
pulse repetition time (PRT) synchronuous to the primary radar
pulse repetition frequency (PRF) synchronuous to the primary radar
pulsewidth (τ) depending on mode
peak power 1,000 or 2,000 W, selectable
antenna rotation integrated in the main antenna
