Description
The FH70 (field howitzer for the 1970s) is a towed howitzer in use with several nations. The FH-70 is a towed 155 mm howitzer developed by an international consortium, which included Vickers Ltd in the UK, OTO Melara in Italy, and Rheinmetall GmbH in West Germany. It was also manufactured in all three of these nations during its decade-long production run, and it was also produced in substantial quantity in Japan.

FH70R
This version had the bore increased to 45 cal, range to 32,808 yd (30,000 m) with basic ammunition. It was introduced in 1984.
Japanese FH-70
This variant replaced the 155-mm M114 towed howitzers in the Japan Self-Defense Force. Responsibility for the contract fell to Rheinemetall. It is license-built by Japan Steel Works.
FH-70 with 52-caliber ordnance
This is a trial version conforming to the quadrilateral ballistic agreement; it has a range of 18.6 miles (30,000 meters) with a L15A1 projectile. A range of 24.8 miles (40,000 meters) can be achieved with base bleed projectiles.
