Description

The 1S32 (NATO designation: “Pat Hand”) is a C-band coherent pulse radar designed for target tracking and missile guidance within the Krug (NATO designation: SA-4 “Ganef”) surface-to-air missile system. Each Krug anti-aircraft missile battery is equipped with one of these fire control radars, which can detect targets up to 130 km away and initiate target tracking at ranges between 80 and 90 km. The 1S32 guides launched missiles via command and control initially, transitioning to semi-active steering for the final approach, continuously tracking the missile's flight via a continuous wave signal received from a transponder on the missile's rear tail unit. Development of the 1S32 began in 1958, with series production starting in 1965; over 300 units were produced through upgrades until 1975, seeing widespread use in Warsaw Pact countries and remaining in service in Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Kyrgyzstan.
