AN/FPS-88
The AN/FPS-88 is an L-band air defense radar system, manufactured by Lockheed Martin in the United States, that operated between 1280 and 1380 MHz. It is an enhanced version of the FPS-8 radar, featuring improved range performance and upgraded signal processing. Key characteristics include a high-gain antenna with a narrow 1.3° beamwidth, circular polarization, dual-channel operation, a parametric amplifier receiver, and a radar signal processor with electronic counter-countermeasures (ECCM) capabilities. The system also allowed for the main antenna to be used for identification friend-or-foe (IFF) functionality. With a peak power of 1 MW and an average power of 1.1 kW, the AN/FPS-88 was operational from 1966 to 1996, notably at Paços de Ferreira on the Serra do Pilar in Portugal.
