Description

The Griffon VBMR is a new 6x6 multi-role armored vehicle developed for the French Army as part of the EBMR Scorpion program (Engin Blindé Multi-Rôle - Armored Multi-Role Vehicles). This vehicle has been designed by a consortium of French companies, including Nexter Systems, Arquus (formerly known as Renault Trucks Defense), and Thales. The program also involves Safran, which will provide optronics for fire control and observation devices. The Griffon will primarily serve as an armored personnel carrier, but there are plans for six different versions: Armored Personnel Carrier, Command Post, Ambulance, Artillery Observation, Engineer, and Recovery. Main Weapon System
Note The Griffon is equipped with a T2 remote weapon system designed by the French company ARQUUS. This system can be armed with either a 7.62mm or a 12.7mm heavy machine gun, or a 40mm automatic grenade launcher. Such equipment is typically used on modern military vehicles, as it allows the gunner to operate from the relative safety of the vehicle. The turret includes a day-and-night sighting system that enhances the weapon's accuracy and provides the commander and gunner with a broader field of view for detecting, recognizing, and identifying targets. Additionally, the turret features METRAVIB's SLATE acoustic sniper localization system and is equipped with smoke grenade dischargers. As an option, the vehicle can also be outfitted with two MMP (Missile Moyenne Portée - Medium-Range Missile) anti-tank guided missiles, manufactured by the French company MBDA. These missiles have a maximum range of 4,000 meters and utilize a fire-and-forget mode, meaning they do not require further guidance after launch, such as target illumination or wire guidance. They can strike targets without the launcher being in the line of sight. Furthermore, the front of the turret is fitted with eight smoke grenade dischargers as part of the GALIX counter-measure system, developed and manufactured by the French company Lacroix.
Protection
Hull Armor Protection against the firing of small arms and shell splinters (NATO STANAG 4569 Level 4). The crew cabin at the front of the vehicle is fitted with a large bulletproof windscreen and one door on each side. Each side of the crew compartment is fitted with two small bulletproof. At the rear of the hull, there is one power-operated ramp that opens downwards which allows infantrymen to quickly enter and leave the vehicle. The vehicle is fitted with mine-blast protection seats, four on each side of the troop's compartment.
Turret Armor INA
Applique Armor In option, the vehicle could be equipped with add-on armor to increase ballistic and mine protection. The Griffon can be also fitted with a wire cage armor to increase protection against anti-tank rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) attacks.
