Terminal Area Radar RL-71 SX
The Terminal Area Radar RL-71 SX is an S-band Airport Surveillance Radar designed for air traffic control within an airport's terminal area, detecting targets up to 150 km (80 nautical miles). Operating at frequencies between 2,700 and 2,900 MHz with pulsewidths of 1 µs and 90 µs, it features an antenna rotation speed of 10 to 15 rpm. The system includes an Antenna Unit, Radar Head Electronics, and Dispatcher Room Equipment, with critical radar subsystems doubled for enhanced reliability. It incorporates an integrated powerful Monopulse Secondary Surveillance Radar (MSSR) subsystem, which extends radar coverage up to 450 km (250 nautical miles) and is fully implemented into the radar system. The RL-71 SX utilizes proprietary Adaptive Moving Target Indication (AMTI) technology for optimal radar parameter adjustment and target data processing, with display presentation on large-screen LCD monitors complemented by VHF/UHF transceivers and a Recording/Reply Unit. The radar system supports two alternative power sources, with an installed uninterruptible power supply (UPS) to cover short supply drop-outs, and its modular structure allows for customer-specific configurations while complying with all ICAO and EUROCONTROL recommendations.
