Description

The Thales NS50 Naval Surveillance radar is a multi-mission X-band (IEEE designation) or I-band (NATO designation) air and surface surveillance radar with fire control capabilities, designed for short to medium-range operations up to 97 nautical miles (180 km). This software-defined sensor features a modular and scalable hardware architecture, making it suitable for various naval platforms such as combat boats, Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs), Mine Countermeasure (MCM) vessels, and auxiliaries. It utilizes a liquid-cooled rotating active phased array antenna, providing a vertical radar coverage of 70 degrees with rotation speeds of 15 or 60 revolutions per minute. Thales has supplied 12 NS50 radars to the Belgian Navy and 50 to the Royal Netherlands Navy.
