UH-60JA Black Hawk



The UH-60JA Black Hawk is a variant of the American UH-60L for employment by the Japanese Ground Self Defense Force. It is licensed by United Technologies for production by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. The Japan Maritime Self Defense Force operates the SH-60J. The UH-60JA is powered by two GE T700-IHI-701A turboshaft engines. The SH-60J is powered by two GE T700-IHI-7401C turboshaft engines. Both engine types are licensed for production by Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries in Japan. Both versions includes an improved durability gearbox and updated flight control system. The UH-60 JS is fitted with an external tank system (ETS), carrying two fuel tanks on the stub wings The UH-60JA features four-blade main and tail rotors like the UH-60L. The main rotor is fully articulated and has elastomeric bearings in the rotor head. The tail rotor is canted and features a rigid crossbeam. The aircrafts critical components are armored or redundant and its airframe is designed to protect the crew and passengers by crushing progressively on impact. The UH-60JA is capable of performing a wide array of missions it can transport a squad of 11 combat troops or reposition a 105 mm M119 howitzer with 30 rounds ammunition, and a six-man crew in a single lift. It is equipped with advanced avionics and electronics for increased survivability and capability, such as the Global Positioning System (GPS), forward looking infrared radar (FLIR), color weather radar, and a wire cutter.
