Foxhunter
The AI-24 Foxhunter is an X-band multimode pulse-Doppler airborne interception (AI) radar system manufactured by BAE Systems in the United Kingdom. Optimized for air defense, it operates primarily using a pulse-Doppler technique called Frequency Modulated Interrupted Continuous Wave (FMICW) and has an instrumented range of 185 km. The radar features a hydraulically stabilized Cassegrain antenna and was designed to be compatible with the size and weight constraints of the Tornado air defense variant. Its traveling wave tube transmitter supports various waveforms, while the receiver utilizes separate intermediate frequency (IF) amplifiers for FMICW and pulse modes due to their distinct optimal characteristics. Pulse radar modes employ Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) filters for intrapulse modulation and pulse compression, whereas FMICW modes use frequency modulation for ranging.
