The Tares III-16TC1 provides STANAG 4569 Level III ballistic protection. This is one level below the 19TC1's Level IV, but sufficient for a wide range of threat environments. The vehicle's MRAP designation reflects its design emphasis on countering mines and improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Interior crew protection measures include blast-attenuating seats designed to mitigate underbody blast effects.
