Description

The RAT-31SL, originally designated MRCS-403 by Alenia, is an S-band (IEEE designation) or E/F-band (NATO designation) 3D air defense radar. It is designed for target acquisition and fighter guidance, capable of acquiring and tracking targets up to 450 km (250 NM) with a peak power of 155 kW and a beamwidth of 1.5° (1.3°). This adaptable system can be used for both air defense and air traffic control, even under severe electronic countermeasures (ECM) conditions, utilizing multiple independently controlled pencil beams and a monopulse method for flexible airspace surveillance and data processing. The radar incorporates various electronic protective measures (EPM) such as an antenna with very small side lobes, fast frequency agility, and a dedicated ECM receive channel, while its mechanical design allows for rapid setup and dismantling to enhance battlefield survivability.
