Description

The AN/SPY-3, also known as the Multi-Function Radar (MFR), is an X-band active phased array radar developed by Raytheon E-Systems in the United States. Utilizing advanced Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) technology, it integrates the functions of up to five radars and ten antennas into a single system without rotating parts. The radar provides 360-degree azimuth coverage through three fixed faces and is designed to meet all horizon search and fire control requirements for 21st-century naval fleets. Its primary mission is ship self-defense, including the detection of advanced low-observable anti-ship cruise missile (ASCM) threats and supporting fire-control illumination for current and future standardized defense missiles. Following the cancellation of the AN/SPY-4 long-range air surveillance radar, the AN/SPY-3 was adapted via a software change to also perform this function.
