AN/MPQ-64 “Sentinel”

The AN/TPQ-64 “Sentinel” is an X-band, 3D search and target acquisition pulse-Doppler radar manufactured by Raytheon E-Systems in the United States. Designed for Short-Range Air Defense (SHORAD) systems, it detects incoming aircraft, drones, and cruise missiles with an instrumented range of 46 miles (75 km), a range resolution of 150 meters, and an accuracy of 30 meters or 0.2 degrees. Operating with an antenna rotation of 30 rpm, it incorporates a Mode 5 Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) subsystem and is typically deployed with forward-area air defense units such as NASAMS. The radar, weighing 3,900 lbs (1,800 kg), is trailer-mounted and can be towed by a High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV) or an M1082 Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles truck, both equipped with a 10 kW 400 Hz 115/200 VDC on-board power generator. Its phased array antenna folds down for transport, and its light weight allows for helicopter airlift and deployment on rooftops or towers for elevated coverage. The Sentinel was developed based on the AN/TPQ-36A mortar locating radar.
