TRS 3207 Crotale
The TRS 3207 Crotale is a multi-role S-band radar system employed within the Crotale air defense system for surveillance, target acquisition, and missile guidance. It is designed for air defense against low- and very low-altitude targets in the (V)SHORAD range, providing close-range protection. The system features an X-band, frequency-agile monopulse Doppler missile guidance radar, offering low susceptibility to jamming and deception, with a maximum detection range of 18 km and effective helicopter engagement up to 12 km. It can guide up to two missiles simultaneously, using a goniometer for initial detection and then radar-based line-of-sight guidance, continuously calculating deviation in elevation and azimuth between the antenna boresight, target, and missile. In Crotale versions up to the Crotale 5000, the TRS 3207 is integrated into the firing unit (FU) alongside four missiles, while the Mirador reconnaissance radar is on a separate Acquisition Unit (AU); however, newer Crotale NG (New Generation) systems consolidate both search and target tracking radars on a single vehicle with the missiles. The radar has an instrumented range of 18.5 km and an antenna rotation speed of 60 revolutions per minute.
