Description
The QW-12 Chinese Man-Portable Air-Defense Systems (MANPADS) retains the QW-2 MANPADS' “direct targeting” and “safe launch” capabilities. The Chinese aerospace corporation also said the missile employs “superior jamming performance” and its warhead is made of prefabricated tungsten alloy fragments. Beijing has been pushing the QW-12 system in the export market since 2014, yet there have been no known export orders for it. However, existing QW-2 users will be the natural customers for the missile system. China may explore its presence in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East markets to export the QW-12 to these regions.

The QW-12 launcher is equipped with a basic optical sight for daytime conditions. The launcher can also be optionally fitted with an IR night sight.

According to China Precision Machinery Import-Export Corporation (CPMIEC), the QW-12 missile's seeker can detect a jet aircraft more than 9 km away or a helicopter beyond 7 km. The Chinese company also said the QW-12 has more than 0.8 probability of resisting an infrared (IR) jamming source against eight IR decoys continuously and its single-shot probability of kill (Pk) is above 0.8.
