AN/APY-11
The AN/APY-11 is an X-band (IEEE designation) or I-band (NATO designation) multi-mode airborne radar with an instrumented range of 200 nautical miles (approximately 370 km). It performs 360-degree azimuth surface surveillance, classification, and Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and Inverse Synthetic Aperture Radar (ISAR) imaging of ships, terrain, and coastal features. The radar can detect and track ships, aircraft, ground moving vehicles, and Search and Rescue (SAR) transponders, and provides cueing for Electro-Optical/Infra-Red (EO/IR) payloads. The U.S. Coast Guard employs the AN/APY-11 for drug interdiction, locating stranded vessels, tracking North Atlantic ice, and mapping oil spills, including the Deepwater Horizon incident.
