SBR-3 “Fara”
The SBR-3 “Fara” (Cyrillic: СБР-3 «Фара», meaning “Headlight”), also known by its GRAU index 1RL-136 and NATO designation “Chip Face,” is a portable, tripod-mounted battlefield radar designed for short-range ground surveillance. Operating in the X-band (10 GHz), it utilizes continuous wave radar with phase code modulation to detect and track moving targets such as personnel and vehicles within an instrumented range of 4 km. This technology enhances security and resistance to active countermeasures by selectively identifying signals from moving targets. The system provides target bearing and range information on a digital display, with an accuracy of less than 50 meters and a range resolution of 100 meters, and can be operated in either automatic or manual mode.
